It wasn't until we purchased an extra battery and a camera that works off the same battery that we realized that charging batteries off-camera is a better practise since the camera/camcorder does sometimes get unusually warm after charging. Besides having a battery charge at home/hotel while on the road with a stand-by is a secure feeling. The device itself is very compact and sturdy with color coded LEDs to let you know when charging has completed. It fits easily (including the little power supply box) into a camera/camcorder bag and is a guaranteed travel companion.
