It needed to be easy to operate, have a remote, and I stressed getting something IPOD compatible just in case she gets one in the future. She seems very happy with it. Set up was easy. The sound was amazingly rich for such thin speakers. I know this style of player was easy to get a few years back. I think fisher made some similar models. If you are looking for something with a thin profile for a bookself or the like consider this.
