(More customer reviews)OK, this is a splitter. You can buy a cheap one anywhere but this one is well-made. The design matches the iPod well but it's functional as well. The black circle is a rubberized material with ridges that provide a good place to hold the splitter while you plug or unplug headphones. It works great.
I bought the splitter to use with a laptop playing DVD's while on vacation so that my wife and I could both listen with headphones (extremely important not to wake kids, especially while trying to enjoy a quiet moment on vacation). It works well on the plane too where you must use headphones to not disturb other passengers.

(More customer reviews)I tried several headphone splitters off our 42-inch HD LCD in our home gym, but this one is the best. We've had it for months and it does the job perfectly. Clarity and volume are not affected -- no hum and no attenuation. And the splitter seems impervious to the independent movement of two headphone cords as the sound remains constant -- no shorting out and disruption of sound. Looks classy, too. Next time I need another headphone splitter, this is the one I will buy.

(More customer reviews)Can be used with multiple pod and headphone combinations. My son plugged in Disney and Crazy Frog's versions of a song, through 2 pods. He and I both listened to his mix, and we still had two ports available for more friends or MP3 players. Only has one MP3 jack, so to use more than one device at a time, you need a male-to-male plug (radio shack/target/walmart for >$5). This is really cool for letting 5 kids listen at once. Great product. We'll see how it holds up over time, though the quality feels fine. Props to Belkin for making packaging that doesn't require scissors and sharp edges/sliced fingers to open...
EDIT: My son checked the packaging this morning before he threw it away and there was an extra male-to-male plug for connecting a second ipod wrapped up inside. The only way it could be better is if it made my coffee...

(More customer reviews)I bought two of these items. One was defective. Not a good start, but the product is not bad considering it's the only option in this price range. There does seems to be some volume attenuation, but it is barely noticeable (i.e. the volume is a bit higher when the headphones are plugged directly into the source, versus through this splitter when it is on the maximum volume. Not sure the mute switch makes much sense. Why not have installed a mute switch for both sets of headphones? I can see more application for that than the current configuration.

(More customer reviews)This worked fine for about 5 months, now it shorts out, so music comes through only one earbud (regardless of which of the 2 splitter inputs is used). Squeezing/bending the splitter fixes the 2nd channel, but only while holding it in that position. Usually had in my shorts pocket, so not a lot of stress on the cable. Due to this problem, I would not buy this product again.
